Each month we feature a local artist whose work you will find illuminating the café walls.
This month's featured artist: Kari Brooks
"my name is kari brooks. i live, work, and create ceramic artwork in portland, which i happen to think is the greatest town ever built. i live with a bearded, bike-happy husband named ed, and a clever brown dog named huxley.
i initiated the course toward my present body of ceramic work about a year ago. built entirely by hand from slabs of clay, the wallboxes in this collection were born from a personal vow to build small, build many, and let the glaze do the talking. the boxes have gone through multiple firings and may be hung indoors or outdoors.
when my hands aren¢t covered in iron oxide, lithium, or kaolin, i telecommute for a publishing house in berkeley. i also sew homey bedthings with wool, and draw calendars; you can find my 2008 bike calendar at the bikecraft holiday sale this fall."
